Performing a factory reset on your iPhone can be an effective troubleshooting tool. If you have eSIMs installed on your device, it's normal to wonder what will happen to your eSIMs when performing this process. In this guide, we'll explain how to safely reset your iPhone without losing your eSIMs.

What is a factory reset?

A factory reset is a process that restores your iPhone to its original settings and erases all stored data and apps. For example, you might need to perform a factory reset to fix a problem with your device or to erase data on your iPhone before selling, trading in, or giving it away.

Here's what happens when you perform a factory reset on your iPhone:

  • All user data is deleted, including apps, photos, contacts, etc.

  • Your device returns to its original factory settings.

  • System files and pre-installed applications are reinstalled to ensure proper operation of the device.

What happens to your eSIMs during a factory reset?

If a factory reset deletes all your data, what happens to your eSIMs? The decision to keep or remove your eSIMs is entirely up to you. When you perform a factory reset on an iPhone, you'll have two options: (1) keep the eSIMs and erase data, or (2) remove the eSIMs and erase data.

Which one to choose? If you're troubleshooting your phone and plan to continue using it, you'll probably want to keep your eSIM profiles intact. In this case, we recommend selecting "Keep eSIMs and erase data." This will keep your eSIM profiles during the factory reset.

On the other hand, if you plan to sell, trade in, or give away your iPhone, you'll probably want to wipe it clean. To erase all your data, including your eSIM profiles, select "Delete eSIMs & Erase Data." This will remove your eSIM profiles along with the rest of your data during the reset.
