M.Tech Admission Process in Civil Engineering, Criteria, Subjects and Fees
Master in Civil Engineering is a postgraduate programme which has a total duration of 2 years, divided into four semesters. Candidates who have obtained a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in any branch can pursue Master in Civil Engineering. Through this course, students are provided with a curriculum of the specialized concept of Civil Engineering with in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of civil engineering and the concept of construction management. The various areas of civil engineering covered by Master in Civil Engineering include structures, construction management, construction and material modelling, construction of satellites, dams, roads, etc.
The selection of candidates for admission to Master in Civil Engineering is done either through direct admission or through a national level entrance exam like Gate or TANCET. The average fee for Master in Civil Engineering course varies between ₹ 50,000 to ₹ 2 lakh, depending on the type of institute.
Eligibility Criteria for Master of Technology in Civil Engineering
Candidates seeking to pursue a Master of Technology in Civil Engineering degree must meet certain eligibility criteria to be eligible for the course. Though the eligibility criteria for admission to Master of Technology in Civil Engineering differ from university to university, there are certain minimum eligibility criteria that candidates must meet for admission.
The eligibility criteria required for admission to Master of Technology in Civil Engineering are given below:
Candidates must have obtained a degree in Engineering (B.Tech/ BE) in any branch of Engineering including CSE/ECE/Mining/Agricultural/Civil/EEE Engineering, from a recognized Institute.
The candidate must have obtained a minimum aggregate of 50% (45% for reserved candidates) in the qualifying examination.
Candidates appearing for the final examination or awaiting the final result can also apply for admission to the Master of Technology in Civil Engineering course.
Admission Process
While some colleges offer M.Tech Admission in Civil Engineering program on the basis of merit obtained by the student in a national level entrance examination (GATE), some of the colleges also conduct their own entrance exam to test the eligibility of the students for admission. Based on the merit obtained by the student in the qualifying exam or an entrance exam, the shortlisted candidates are called for the college level test in which their competency in terms of Civil Engineering, Mathematics Concept, Aptitude and Reasoning is tested. Based on the performance of the student in the entrance exam, the qualified candidates are called for the personal interview round conducted by the colleges. Based on the overall marks obtained by the student in the entrance exam and the interview round, the eligible candidates are offered admission to the program.
M. Tech Civil Engineering Course Fees
The M. Tech Civil Engineering course fee depends on various factors such as the type of institute, the popularity/ranking of the institute and the merit/scholarship obtained by the student. For example, the student who scores the highest marks in the entrance exam will receive a higher scholarship, which means a lower course fee as compared to students with direct admission. On the other hand, government institutes will have much lower fees as compared to private institutes. On an average, the course fee for the M.Tech Civil Engineering program ranges between INR 50k and 2 lakh.
