I am an old person who used to live alone so here it is from my perspective.

1) Never ever patronise me.

2) Never assume that because I am old I am stupid. 71 is my age, not my IQ.

3) LISTEN to me. I get weary of people talking at me but not listening to me.

4) Don’t make stereotypical assumptions. I find it very insulting when younger people assume that I am unable to use IT when I own state of the art kit and am technically very competent.

5) Don’t use that special voice reserved for infants and idiots with me. If you do you are likely to be at the butt end of my righteous anger.

6) If you want to help ASK me whether I want or need assistance and ask me what I need then listen to my answer.

7) Talk with me, not at me. I enjoy conversation but dont get much of it.

8) Make eye contact and treat me like an equal, not like a babbling moron who has lost my marbles.

9) Afford me the same respect that you afford others.
