What Pride means to these teens

There's lots to celebrate in June: Summer solstice, the end of school, National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Did you know that in many parts of the world, it's also Pride month?

It's a time to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

2SLGBTQ+ stands for two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning, queer or those who might not identify with any of those letters.

People across the country celebrate Pride for different reasons.

For many, it is a time to reflect on history — remembering the days when 2SLGBTQ+ people weren’t widely accepted and the people who fought for their rights.

The community still faces discrimination and violence in parts of the world.

But Pride is also a time to celebrate love and equality.

CBC Kids News wanted to hear from kids and teens who are members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

So we checked out a Pride Prom, an event for teens to dress up and dance, at the Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in Toronto, Ontario, on June 25.
